Please, no more Favre highlights

by OldSchool

The second annual Brett Favre retirement/unretirement soap opera appears over. Does that mean the same highlight reel that ESPN must have shown a kizzilion times will be put on a shelf? Let’s hope so.

Like trading Bochy for Geren

by OldSchool

Trades and trade rumors are still the hot talk in baseball. Wackiest trade in baseball history? My nomination would be the 1960 midseason trade in which the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians swapped managers.

by OldSchool

I know we’ve just finished with the 2009 Hall of Fame inductions of Rickey Henderson, Jim Rice and Joe Gordon. But there is one name on the eligibility list for 2010 that deserves support right now: Roberto Alomar.

Giants’ midseason madness

The Giants’ strangest, most intriguing midseason acquisitions ever: Darryl Strawberry in June 1994 and Deion Sanders in July 1995.

Done deal that was undone

by OldSchool

In 1976, baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn vetoed two midseason transactions initiated by Oakland A’s owner Charlie Finley. One deal had star pitcher Vida Blue going to the Yankees for $1.5 million. The other was outfielder Joe Rudi and closer Rollie Fingers going to the Red Sox for $2 million. I write about these undone deals and the Finley-Kuhn feud in my Sunday column in The Press Democrat, also available online at pressdemocrat.com. But there was another Finley-inspired transaction that Kuhn quashed.

In light of the recent news about a Terrell Owens reality TV show and a Shaquille O’Neal reality TV show, my colleague Eric suggested I imagine what reality shows might have looked like Old School-style. So, here goes.
