Heartbreaking memories for Giants fans
by OldSchool
It’s World Series time. The Fall Classic. Baseball’s showcase event. For Giants fans, though, the Series evokes painful memories. Three painful memories, actually.
1962. Game 7. Bottom of the ninth. Giants trail the Yankees, 1-0. Matty Alou is on third, Willie Mays on second. Two out. Ralph Terry pitching. Willie McCovey batting. Screaming liner but right at second baseman Bobby Richardson.
1989. The Bay Bridge Series. Giants vs. A’s. The Earthquake Series. A’s sweep. Enough said.
2002. Giants up, 3 games to 2 over the Angels. Lead 5-0 in the bottom of the seventh of Game 6 at Anaheim. Still lead 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth. Six outs to go. Angels rally, win 6-5. Angels win Game 7, 4-1.
Giants still looking for their first World Series title since moving to San Francisco in the Eisenhower Administration.
