The curse of Barry Bonds
by OldSchool
With their next loss, the Pittsburgh Pirates will have 17 consecutive losing seasons, the most of any team in the history of any of the four major North American professional sports — MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL. Can we call it the curse of Barry Bonds? I think we can.
When Bonds left Pittsburgh after the 1992 season and signed as a free agent with the Giants, the Pirates had just won their third consecutive division title (and lost a seven-game NLCS for the second straight year).
Since then, the best year they’ve had was 1999, when the won 78 and lost 83.
And it’s not like the Pirates haven’t had stars during the post-Bonds years. They’ve had Rick Reuschel, Jason Bay, Freddy Sanchez, Jack Wilson, Brian Giles, Jason Kendall, Jason Schmidt and Adam LaRoche, to name a few.

I dont think its the curse Of BARRY BONDS….Its the curse of the OWNERS and MANAGERS…..Ever since Jim Leyland, no one else knows how to manage the PITTSBURGH PIRATES…Give us someone like Jim Leyland, and we’ll do alright…

If there’s one thing you can say about Barry Bonds it is that he’s no Reggie Jackson. Jackson, known as “Mr. October” for his post-season home-runs, carried the A’s and Yankees to several World Series. Bonds, on the other hand, couldn’t hit a whiffle ball in the big post-season games for either the Pirates or Giants. If “Mr. November” had played just half as well in post-season games as he did during the regular season both the Pirates and Giants would have an extra World Series victory or two.

…and they have also had Managers with names like Gene Lamont…Lloyd McClendon…Pete Mackanin…Jim Tracy…
