Giants fan confesses he’s liked some Dodgers
by OldSchool
I was raised a Giants fan, went to see them when they called the Polo Grounds home. As a Giants fan, I was raised to hate the Dodgers. It’s in my blood — thanks, Dad. But I have a confession. There have been Dodgers I’ve liked. These are their names:
Jackie Robinson (I was only 8 when he played his last season, but I saw lots of Dodgers games on TV and distinctly remember what excitement he generated, especially as a baserunner, and even as an 8-year-old Giants fan, I knew I liked Jackie a lot).
Maury Wills (Ok, it was more like love/hate)
Koufax and Drysdale (OK, it was envy)
Fernando Valenzuela
Mike Piazza
Tommy Davis
Mike Marshall (one of the heroes of “Ball Four”).
